Privacy Policy

Mistale is a party game played by a group of friends on their own phones, together or apart. This policy explains exactly what data the app touches and why.

No accounts

Mistale has no sign-up, no login, and no user accounts. There is nothing to register.

The one exception is the invite code described below. Apart from that, no persistent identity is created or stored on any server.

Invite codes

If you use the invite feature, your phone generates a six-character code, a random string, not derived from anything about you or your device. It works like a discount code: you choose to share it, and a friend types it in.

When a friend redeems your code, our server stores two things and nothing else:

That is the whole record. It carries no name, no email, no device identifier, nothing about your games, and nothing about what you have bought. It is not linked to the anonymous usage counts described below (by design, those cannot be joined to it), and it is never used for advertising, never shared, and never sold.

If you never use the invite feature, nothing about your phone is stored on our server at all.

You can ask us to delete your invite record at any time: email support@mistale.app with your code and we will remove it.

What the app collects

Player names and custom settings. When you join a game, the name you type is shared with the other players' phones so they can see who is at the table. It passes through our relay server, which forwards messages between the phones without storing them. If the host owns the Storyteller and writes a custom setting for the story, that text travels the same way.

If a host has narration turned on, the player name involved in that night's story, and any custom setting text, is sent to our server, which forwards it to two third-party AI services purely to generate that night's story and read it aloud:

This data is used only to generate that one game's narration. It is not linked to your identity, since there is no account to link it to, and it is never used for advertising or shared with data brokers.

What the app does NOT collect

Purchases

In-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple's App Store (StoreKit). Mistale never sees your payment information. It only checks with Apple whether you own a pack, to unlock it on your device.

Data kept on your device

These stay on your phone and are never sent to us:

Data kept in your iCloud

If you buy narrated nights, or earn them by inviting friends, the number of nights you have bought, earned and used is saved to your own iCloud account as well as your phone. Nothing else is.

This is so you do not lose nights you paid for. Narration nights are a consumable purchase, which the App Store cannot restore, so without this a customer who deleted the app, or moved to a new phone, would lose whatever balance they had left.

It is three numbers. It carries no name, no identifier, and nothing about your games. It is stored in your personal iCloud, which we cannot read: we never receive it, and it is not sent to our server. If you are signed out of iCloud, nothing is stored there and the balance simply stays on the phone.

Anonymous usage counts

We count how the game is used, never who is using it. When a game is set up and when it ends, the app sends a few plain facts: how many people are playing, which narrator voice and mood were chosen, which roles were dealt, how many nights the game lasted, and how it finished. We also record what each story and narration costs us to produce. We also count which packs are bought (never the price, the transaction, or anything about the buyer) and how often an invite code is shared, without the code itself.

These carry no name, no identifier, and nothing you typed, not your setting, not any player's name. Nothing links one to another, so there is no way for us to see one phone's history, or to tell that two games came from the same person. We could not build a profile of you from this if we wanted to. It exists so we know which voices are worth making more of, and what the game costs to run.

Content moderation

Player names and custom settings are automatically screened on-device and on our server to block offensive language before they're ever shown to other players or used to generate a story.

Children's privacy

Mistale does not knowingly collect personal information from children, has no chat or messaging feature, and has no account system of any kind.
